Dozens of community members gathered at Indian Lake Elementary School for a meal, fun entertainment and an update with the supertintendent.
ILES hosted the district's annual Community Leader/Senior Appreciation Breakfast recently. The event was the conclusion to Read Across America Week and the decor was Dr. Seuss inspired.
The Indian Lake Food Service Staff offered up a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs, sausage and biscuits and more. ILES Student Council members and ILHS Key Club members assisted in serving and clean up.
Indian Lake Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood dined with our guests, then gave a brief district update. He talked about the new bus garage facility and weight room, enrollment trends, the changing needs of students and improvements in curriculum.
He also addressed the recent changes in property taxes at the state level and what it means for Indian Lake Schools.
"From tax collections on this side, to what we receive from the state, we know funding is going to be flatlined. So our board and our new treasurer are working really hard to break this down. Our goal is to be without levies for as long as we can because we know things have changed so significantly on the property tax side of things."
To round out the morning, the jump roping Leapin' Lakers performed for the crowd and the cast of the ILHS Musical "Once Upon A Mattress" introduced themselves and sang a few measures of the finale song.

Indian Lake Local Schools invite community leaders and IL area residents 55 and older to a free breakfast at Indian Lake Elementary School on Friday, March 6th.
We will celebrate Read Across America Week with a meal, a special performance by the ILES Leapin' Lakers and a meet and greet with members of the ILHS Musical "Once Upon a Mattress" cast.

Indian Lake Superintendent Dr. Underwood will provide an overall district update, as well.
Hope you’ll join us!
