February Board Meeting-Financial Update
Posted on 02/20/2026

The Indian Lake Board of Education got a financial update, celebrated student success, set the calendar for the next school year and approved pivotal retirements at the regular February Board meeting.
District treasurer Brady Hipsher offered the required 4-5 year forecast, noting that several new laws will certainly affect Indian Lake's funding.
Indian Lake Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood boils down the financial outlook.
"We know that our funding is going to be pretty much flatlined at the rate of inflation. And we also know that the emergency levy is going to be rolled into the 20-mil floor and will eventually go away, so we are planning for how we can adjust for those income changes in the future."
The board recognized ILMS 7th grader Calin Headings with a certificate of achievement. Headings recently won the Logan County Spelling Bee. He is a 3-time champion of the ILMS Spelling Bee and he is already preparing for a sweep his 8th grade year.
Board members approved the 2026-27 school year calendar for the district. (see below)
Finally, they also approved the upcoming retirements of three longtime Lakers.
8th Grade Science teacher Julie Grider is retiring after 34 years. She is an ILHS alum, parent of three ILHS grads and served as a dedicated coach.
Guidance Secretary Barb Keykens leaves the ILHS Guidance Office after nearly 30 years of helping students look toward the future.
And ILES Co-Principal Pam Scarpella plans to retire after 25 years at Indian Lake as a teacher, PBIS leader and energetic administrator.
Dr. Underwood says it's a bittersweet goodbye.
"We are extremely happy for those individuals. It just speaks volumes of our district and the culture we have here that they're willing to spend nearly 3 decades with us caring for our kids and community."
The board will meet again on Monday, March 16th at 5:30 pm.
