Awesome news for the summer!!!
The Chippewa and Russells Point Neighborhood Outreach Centers partnered with Indian Lake Schools to submit a grant proposal through Ohio Department of Education’s Summer Learning and After School Opportunities Grant. We recently received notification that we were approved for the full amount --$166,000!!
This money will be divided up and used in the summer of 2022, 2023 and 2024 to expand our summer programs. This will increase the pay and hours for our summer interns to allow us to offer more programming. An additional intern will be hired at the RP Center and allow the summer hours to double from 15 to 30 hours per week. We will also be partnering with the local summer camps to send 30 kids for weeklong camps- at no cost to them. All kids who wish to participate in the ‘Kids Read Now’ program will receive free books for the summer. The funding will also cover the school supplies and book bags at our “Back to School" Picnic at the end of each summer. We are extremely excited about this opportunity and the funding will allow us to reach more kids in the community. We will now have funding to purchase additional chrome books, and computer equipment to accommodate the increase in number of students attending the program.
The summer programming will begin on Monday, June 6th and run for 10 weeks ending on Friday, August 12th. The Chippewa Center is located at 13976 Ironwood Avenue in Lakeview and will be open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Russells Point Center is located at the Galilee Lutheran Church at 301 Lincoln Boulevard, and it will be open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. (See attached schedules for days and times of programming). The United Way has awarded money to the Centers to provide a summer food program, so the kids will receive free nutritious lunches all week and take home a food bag on the weekends. Both the RP and Chippewa Centers will conclude the summer with a ‘Back to School Picnic' and provide free book bags and school supplies to anyone who attends.
