ILHS Math teacher Mrs. Alexis Scheiderer makes students enjoy high level computing. That’s just one of the reasons a record 17 students and colleagues nominated her for the 25th Annual Bellefontaine Rotary Club Excellence in Teaching Awards. She was introduced as one of the three 2016-17 award recipients in a special luncheon on April 24th at the Hilliker YMCA.
Nominator and fellow top-floor teacher Ed Rogers introduced Scheiderer at the event. He said,
“To teach next to such a talented teacher is amazing! You see kids rush into her classroom for Calculus. That is exceptional!”
Scheiderer told the Rotary Club, “When I went for my master’s degree, a co-worker suggested I go for guidance or an administrative position as a fall-back if I got tired of the classroom. At the time, I thought I love teaching everyday. 20 years later, I still feel the same way.”
Senior calculus student Parker Grothaus also attended the ceremony. He organized a group of students to nominate their favorite teacher.
Other educators receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award this year were Tracy Gregg and Bess Standley from Bellefontaine City Schools. More than 70 educators have received the award over the past 25 years. Past recipients from ILHS Brian Sutton and Erin Miller accompanied Scheiderer, along with her husband, and ILHS Principal Rob Underwood and Superintendent Pat O’Donnell.
Scheiderer teaches Algebra II Advanced, PreCalculus and Calculus.
