The Ohio Art Education Association is recognizing Indian Lake High School Art Teacher Erin Miller as a 2016 recipient of the Central Region's Outstanding Art Teacher Award. Miller was nominated for this distinction from the membership of almost 2,000 art educators statewide.

"OAEA is an organization that is close to my heart. It provides an opportunity for art educators to work together with those who have the same purpose and a passion for their craft. The experience is rewarding and inspiring. To be recognized by this group of peers is very special, and I am beyond grateful to have been selected for this award."

A notification letter from the OAEA says, "Erin Miller is an excellent example of consistent commitment to students, while promoting art and art education to the school and greater community. This award honors her professionalism, dedication and creativity, displaying daily in her art classroom. She continually meet the need and interests of students, bringing about learning, growth, and development in all areas. She creates innovative and developmentally appropriate activities to stretch the imagination of students and further develop their visual skills."

ILHS Principal Rob Underwood says, “Mrs. Miller is most deserving of the Outstanding Teacher Award and we are proud and honored that the OAEA is officially recognizing her excellence.  She approaches everyday with relentless work ethic and passion and she constantly seeks ways to improve her teaching skills, the art program, and educational quality at Indian Lake High School.”

Miller is in her sixth year at Indian Lake High School. She teaches Art I, II, III and IV, Ceramics and Painting, along with advising the Art Club.  Miller will receive her award at the annual development conference of the Ohio Art Education Association on Thursday, November 3rd. Earlier this year, Miller was named as a recipient of the 2016 Bellefontaine Rotary Club Excellence in Teaching Awards as well.
