Lakers will celebrate being drug-free and making "Paws-itive" choices during the annual Red Ribbon Week October 30-November 3rd! The ILHS SADD Chapter is sponsoring the district-wide event and will collect optional donations for emotional support dogs Roxy at ILMS and Sadie at ILHS. Each year, Indian Lake Schools celebrate Red Ribbon Week. The ILHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) members lead events that teach young people to avoid alcohol, drugs, bullying and behaviors that put yourself or others in danger.
We ask all students to take part in the fun by dressing up in the daily themes. Each school's themes are a little different depending on the day, so please see the attached lists!
Here's some of the fun so far!

During the month of October we celebrate Red Ribbon Week to spread awareness of the dangers from bullying, drugs and tobacco use.  Our entire community can come together to teach students the benefits of developing good habits in life for future success.

As students, when you see others your age doing destructive activities, you should not be afraid to tell a trusted adult.  Your eyes see things adult eyes sometimes miss.  Vigilant students go a long way towards protecting their family and friends.

Red Ribbon Week came about in the wake of the tragic death of a former Police officer and DEA agent from California.  Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was murdered while on the trail of a noted drug trafficker.  Clubs were started in his name and members wore red ribbons to mark the sacrifice of Camarena and others.  It was also a symbol to pledge leading drug free lives.

The red ribbon movement spread across California and the U.S. until 1988, when Congress officially designated the last week of October as the first Red Ribbon Week.  Honorary chairpersons President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan helped lend credibility to the program.  Today, more than 80 million students and adults in American join in activities each year.

Please help us honor Officer “Kiki” and support  the ongoing fight against drug abuse across the country by joining in Red Ribbon activities this week.
